Chapter 9
Unfortunately for Elmer, the next few groups that challenged his new Halloween section werenât much better. The first group must have spread the word about what was inside the first room, because the subsequent groups knew about the Ripper Vines and Mimics, as well as Jack, but it took another 7 deaths before a group finally took the massive pumpkin down. The key, it turned out, was keeping their distance as much as possible and attacking from extreme range, which was harder than it sounded, because the room boss could move around quickly enough that they had to stay on the run. They soon learned to bombard Jack with spells directed at the base of the multitude of vines, cutting them apart one-by-one until the giant pumpkin was all but defenseless.
Unfortunately for the group that succeeded, the Corn Maze in the second Halloween room proved too much for them. After losing 2 of their less-defended number to an ambush by Corn Children, they retreated before they could be completely wiped out â for which Elmer was glad. He had already gained over 600 Life Force from just a few hours of Adventurers delving through his dungeon, which was approximately a quarter of the additional Life Force he could hold in his Core at the moment. If it kept up like that, even after a pause during the early morning as usual, then he probably wouldnât survive for more than 24 hours.
Oh, well, I guess it was worth it to go out with a bang. I donât think Iâd change my decision to construct the Halloween section even if Iâd had the chanceâ
âSomething is happening outside, Elmer.â
Keeblesâ interruption of Elmerâs thoughts startled the Dungeon Core, and he moved his attention away from the resetting sections of his dungeon to the entrance. The last 2 groups of Adventurers had exited a short time ago after their delves, and his Minions and Defensive Obstacles were already halfway done restoring everything back to normal. That was one of the benefits of having a higher Core Level, at least, because it required less of his Dungeon Mana, and subsequently less time, for everything to reset for more Adventurers to venture through. Of course, the rapidity of his dungeon restoring itself automatically meant that more Adventurers would be able to go through it each day. Normally, that was a good thing, but it was obviously the last thing Elmer wanted right now.
